Samsung has continued to amp up its mid-range portfolio, with unveiling of its new Galaxy A80 smartphone, featuring a rotating triple lens camera.

Announced in Bangkok, the Galaxy A80 harnesses a ‘slide-up’/’pop-up’ camera which rotates from front to back (e.g. rear mode to selfie mode).

The handset is the first Samsung device to feature its “New Infinity” display, and follows a pledge by mobile boss, DJ Koh, to cease always debuting new specs on flagship phones.

The Galaxy A80’s triple lens set-up incorporates a 48MP (f/2.0) camera, ultra-wide 8MP (f/2.2) camera, and a third time-of-flight sensor.

The ‘New Infinity’ Display forgoes the need for a ‘notch’ or ‘hole-punch’ camera (e.g. on the Galaxy S10+), further enhancing its 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED screen.

Whilst swivel cameras are not new to the smartphone market (e.g. the Oppo Find X), it’s a notable inclusion to Samsung’s mid-range portfolio.

Like Samsung’s Galaxy S10+, the Galaxy A80 features an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The new Galaxy A80 will release internationally on May 29, with pricing and Australian availability to be confirmed.
