Scalpers are selling Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles at huge markups on eBay as stock shortages hit sales of the next-gen consoles.

Listings on the auction site show the consoles selling for thousands of dollars each – well above the retail price of $749 for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. Even the discless PS5 Digital Edition and Xbox Series S are being sold for up to hundreds of dollars over their retail prices ($499 for the Series S, $599 for the PS5 Digital Edition).

The respective console launches have been hit hard by overwhelming demand and limited supply, with pre-orders for each selling out within minutes; it is almost impossible to find either for sale at retail, with even online outlets being mostly out of stock. Vodafone announced this week that it will have a number of PS5 consoles for sale, though only to some of its existing customers.

Resupply of the PS5 and Series X may not be available until early next year.
