Complimenting previous remarks from Seven West Media’s Kerry Stokes, Nine Boss, Hugh Marks, has urged the Australian media industry to unite, as the ACCC prepares to publish submissions received from its Facebook/Google inquiry.

Nine’s Marks has been a vocal opponent against Facebook and Google, supporting the ACCC’s investigation into the impact of the digital tech giants.

According to The Australian Marks believes the ACCC’s probe will ensure content creators are “rewarded for their efforts”, asserting all segments of Australia’s media industry must “work together to achieve this”.

“We must retain the benefits of creative output to the Australian economy and our society, therefore the Commission must create the right regulatory balance – one that both rewards creation and drives innovation” adds Marks.

The ACCC will reportedly publish submissions received from its inquiry into Google and Facebook from April 30th.

As previously reported, Australian media companies have criticised Facebook and Google for their role in perpetuating ‘fake news’, and impairing quality journalism.

Seven West Media’s Kerry Stokes claims the digital giants are a threat to traditional media, and a risk to Australian consumers.

Both Facebook and Google have thus far largely re-buffed the criticism of Australia’s media industry.
