Snapchat

Continuing its experiments into physical products that included the release of Spectacles last year, the company behind Snapchat is believed to be working on a drone.

Sources told The New York Times that Snap, which recently filed for a US$3 billion IPO, has been working on a drone project that would allow users to shoot photos and videos from a new perspective, similar to the company’s smart glasses.

Snap’s Spectacles, which were initially released in limited quantities at select locations in the US, are now also available online in the US.

Drones could eventually form part of Snap’s plans for growth in the future, with the company expected to trade on the New York Stock Exchange from Thursday local time. But technology companies regularly experiment with potential products, and the drone project may not ever produce a product that is released publicly.

A spokesperson for Snap declined to respond to The New York Times story.
