Sony’s Japan division has ceased repairs of PlayStation 2 consoles. Sony set a deadline in June to local PS2 owners, saying they could request one final repair.

PS2 owners had until the end of last month to apply for after-sales service – but that deadline has been extended to September 7.

The PlayStation Clinic will repair devices and any malfunctioning peripherals until then.

After that date PS2 owners in Japan will have to look elsewhere if they want to fix up the best-selling video game console in history.

Sony warned that it may not be able to carry out some repairs due to the dwindling inventory of parts the company has on hand.
