Spotify is testing out a native voice search in its app adding more hype to the rumours it will be releasing a smart speaker in the future.

The voice search function will be accessible via the search page on the app where users can ask to listen to their playlists, artists and songs.

According to Tech Crunch the voice search is currently in testing mode with only a handful of users trying out the feature.

Originally spotted by Twitter user Hunter Owens, who tweeted out the following images.

Once this feature is rolled out users won’t need to talk to Google Assistant, Alexa or Siri to play songs, intensifying the voice assistant market.

The music streaming giant has been on the lookout for an operations manager – hardware products as the company is ‘on its way’ to creating its first physical products.

Spotify announced last Friday morning that it will go public on the NYSE on April 3.
