A raging fire at Tesla’s big battery station in Victoria has finally been brought under control, four days after it was set ablaze.

The facility caught alight on Friday, requiring 30 trucks and 150 firefighters to attend the blaze, in Moorabool, near Geelong.

The fire spread from a 13-tonne lithium ion battery in a shipping container to a second unit, sending toxic fumes across the city.

“Though the flames had subsided by Friday evening, emergency services remained on site with Tesla staff and contractors to monitor the temperature decline of the two affected battery packs,” Louis de Sambucy from French renewable operator Neoen Australia said.

His company funded the capital costs of building the battery. Neoen Australia claims air quality around the site was not compromised by the fire.
