TPG, one of Australia’s biggest broadband companies, is considering disciplinary action against Shane Teoh – the son of billionaire chairman David Teoh – after he was convicted of assaulting an Uber driver.

Teoh has sat on the board of the $12.6 billion dollar company since its 2020 merger with Vodafone and was convicted of the assault in September 2019.

The TPG board member was fined $1500 in a Sydney court this week and a TPG spokesperson confirmed the company is reviewing the incident internally.

“We are aware of this matter. The TPG Telecom board will consider the implications of this matter. TPG Telecom does not condone discriminatory or violent behaviour,” the spokesperson told The Sydney Morning Herald.

Teoh, 34, is the non-executive director of the telco company which was born out of the high-profile merger between TPG and Vodafone Hutchinson Australia in July 2020.

He also sat on the board for TPG Corporation, which his parents founded, for eight years.

The high-flying businessman also owns eyewear company Oscar Wylee with his three brothers.

Oscar Wylee was fined $3.5 million last year after it was found the company had made false representations about charitable donations.

Shane Teoh’s father David Teoh is known as a ‘notoriously private’ person despite launching one of Australia’s biggest telco companies and has a personal fortune of $2.5 billion.
