UK based parcel pickup and returns service Doddle is set to enter the Australian market, bringing another delivery channel to retailers operating online.

Doddle’s parcel stores and collection points overseas are found in high-traffic locations like train stations as well as inside retailers, providing a network of stores for customers to send and receive parcels.

According to the Australian, Doddle has now opened offices in Australia’s two biggest cities.

The company will use these offices in Sydney and Melbourne to try and attract local retail clients.

In the UK, Doddle is used by companies like Marks & Spencer, Asos, and Net-A-Porter, amongst other, to connect “stock to websites, websites to stores and stock to customers in the most seamless way possible”, according to the company’s website.

The pickup points could provide stiff competition to Australia Post’s existing mail lockers service, but Doddle also provides operational and logistics support to its retail partners.

Doddle hopes to address “last mile” logistics gaps in the Australian market and meet increasing consumer demand for speed and convenience for online consumers, as well as help retailers to digitise and streamline their returns processes.

“It’s still very manual with a lot of paperwork and there’s not a lot retailers can do once the goods are returned,” Doddle’s local marketing and sales director Rachel Caton told the paper.

“If you look at the female fashion segment, up to 40 per cent of goods are returned.

“What we can do with our platform is use that as a data point to give retailers more insight.”

Retail industry network NORA founder Paul Greenberg said Doddle could provide an additional option to retailers to provide more choice and convenience to their customers.
