Aussie telco Vocus has inked a deal to provide publicly listed resources company Northern Minerals with a business-grade communications service, using NBN Co’s satellites at the resources company’s pilot plant at Browns Range, Western Australia.

The remote site, located 160 kilometres from the nearest town, has presented a challenge for providing communications at Browns Range. The company said its previous telecommunications coverage was “limited and unreliable”.

After a successful trial last year, Vocus won a deal to provide an NBN satellite service, offering high-speed data and voice connectivity via NBN Co’s Sky Muster satellites. 

“We now have the ability to reliably use video comms and streaming services, and that makes a huge difference in such a remote location,“ said mine COO Robin Jones. “The feedback from our team has been really positive.
