Microsoft’s Outlook email service was hit by an outage early this morning.

Reports to website downdetector.com spiked around 8am Sydney time today, with customers reporting difficulty logging into Outlook and accessing email.

Microsoft reported that the impact was specific to consumer services, with the issue appearing resolved by around 9:30am.

“We determined that a portion of infrastructure responsible for Microsoft consumer account (MSA) access stopped processing traffic as expected, preventing users from accessing Outlook.com.

“We’ve confirmed that the service has been restored; however, we’re continuing to monitor the environment for an extended period of time,” the company said.

Microsoft also experienced outages on its Xbox Live online gaming network overnight, an unfortunate start for the newly-released Xbox Series X and Series S consoles on their launch day.
