Mobile processor giant Qualcomm has launched its own smartphone, available to members of its “Snapdragon Insiders” fan community.

Called simply the Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders, the 5G device will be manufactured, marketed, sold, and supported by partner Asus. It is powered by a Snapdragon 888 processor (rather than the recently-announced 888 Plus) and comes with 16GB of memory and 512GB of storage.

The phone runs Android 11 out of the box, and features a 144Hz 6.78-inch Samsung OLED display plus a rear triple camera array and fingerprint scanner, as well as a 4000mAh battery with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 5 standard.

Qualcomm is hailing the device as “the ultimate extra” built for its Snapdragon fan community.

“It’s a connectivity powerhouse (think the fastest, truly global 5G available, super-fast Wi-Fi 6/6E, and of course, Bluetooth) so you can stay in touch from virtually anywhere.

“And no matter what you’re into, we’ve got you covered with a curated collection of Snapdragon mobile platform experiences,” the chipmaker said.

The device sells for $1500 USD (around $2020 AUD) and ships with a pair of Snapdragon Sound true wireless earbuds from Master & Dynamic, as well as a 65W charger, USB-C and USB-A cables, and a protective case. It will be initially available in the US, China, UK, and Germany, with more regions to follow; preorders open next month.
