Apple’s work in augmented and virtual reality is in the spotlight after the company acquired eye-tracking outfit SensoMotoric Instruments.

The German company specialises in eye-tracking research with proprietary eyeglass hardware. SensoMotoric also works on consumer-focused applications like eye-tracking for virtual reality.

The company came to Apple’s attention after announcing it had created an eye-tracking development kit for the HTC Vive VR headset.

The purchase price hasn’t been made public and it’s not clear if SensoMotoric will continue to operate as a company separate from Apple.
