Shares in Japan Display plummeted more than 20 percent following a report that Apple has decided to use OLED screens for all new iPhone models next year. Apple is planning to use the panels in three new iPhone models, according to Electronic Times.
Japan Display is one of the main suppliers of iPhone LCD screens and won’t start producing OLED panels until next year. The decision is also likely to impact on another screen supplier, Sharp.
Apple rival Samsung Electronics is also its sole supplier of OLED iPhone screens. For Apple to go fully OLED, observers say it would require a massive increase in OLED production by Samsung.
