Debuted at CES 2019, Intel has announced it’s partnered with Facebook to create a new artificial intelligence (AI) computer chip, the ‘Nervana’.

Scheduled to complete in the second half of the year, Nervana will improve the the functional implementation of artificial intelligence algorithms.

Some sages include automatically tagging people on Facebook, plus broadly improving media searches and filtering.

The inference chip will compete with rivals from organisations such as Nvidia, and to a lesser extent Amazon.

Also at CES 2019, Intel announced its new ‘Project Athena’, which partners with manufacturers to build AI-based and 5G PCs.

PC vendors involved in the project include; Acer, Dell, Asus, Lenovo, Samsung, Google and Microsoft.
