DJI, the Chinese-based company that occupies a large market share in the drone and aerial-imaging industry, has announced a new feature in response to privacy concerns.

Local Data Mode will be available on both DJI’s own CrystalSky monitor as well as certain Android tablets when the next update is released for the DJI Pilot App.

Brendan Schulman, the Vice President of Policy and Legal Affairs for DJI, noted that the potential sensitive uses of their drones prompted a review of their technology.

“We are creating Local Data Mode to address the needs of our enterprise customers, including public and private organizations that are using DJI technology to perform sensitive operations around the world.”

“DJI is committed to protecting the privacy of its customers’ photos, videos and flight logs. Local Data Mode will provide added assurances for customers with heightened data security needs.”

Walter Stockwell, the Director of Technical Standards for DJI, emphasised that Local Data Mode was simply introduced with the customer’s data management needs in mind.

“DJI has moved to address customer needs by developing Local Data Mode to provide enhanced data management options. We are pleased to be able to develop Local Data Mode as part of our drive to advocate for our customers’ interests.”
