Dyson has filed patented designs for robots who will be able to navigate staircases.

Bloomberg is reporting that Dyson’s robotics unit has been working on a robot that will interact with its other home appliances, which may be linked to this patent design.

The patent was published in the UK on September 1, and shows a “robotic device with tri-star wheels and actuated arm” that will climb and clean stairs.

As is always the case with patent filings, they don’t automatically mean that a product is close to coming to market, or is even intended to ever be sold. A spokesperson confirmed to Bloomberg that “we file a lot of patents” and Dyson doesn’t speculate on products it “may or may not launch in the future.”
