As tipped earlier this week, Google have now launched their Google Assistant for iOS users.

However, for the time being, the app is only available on the US store. It also faces a number of API limitations that mean it won’t be as comprehensive an experience as it is on Android. The limitations here seem a bit odd and arbitrary (you can use the asssitant to send emails or play music but not set alarms or remap the Home button) but aren’t terribly surprising to see.

Google has made modest strides with Google Assistant since it began rolling the feature out with its Pixel phones and Nougat OS in February.

At that time, Google’s Gummi Hafsteinsson said that “our goal is to make the Assistant available anywhere you need it. It came to Android Wear 2.0—via new smartwatches—just a few weeks ago and, as we previewed in January, the Assistant is also coming to TVs and cars. With this update, hundreds of millions of Android users will now be able to try out the Google Assistant. What will you ask first?”

At this year’s Google I/O 2017, a number of new features were announced for the Google Assistant – including enhanced integration with Android TV, Google Photos and Google Home.
