Amazon has rolled out Skype calling with Alexa for Aussie users, facilitating hands-free voice and video chatting in time for Christmas.

By linking with a Skype account, users can say “Hey Alexa, call Susan on Skype” to trigger free voice-calling over the internet.

Users can use make and receive hands-free Skype calls on their Echo smart speakers, with video calling supported on Amazon’s Echo Show and Echo Spot.

Set-up claims to be easy, facilitated via the Alexa App or alexa.amazon.com.:

  • In the Alexa App or alexa.amazon.com, go to Menu > Settings > Communication
  • Select relevant link to add a Skype account, triggering a sign-in pageĀ 
  • Sign in with Skype account information to complete linking Skype account
  • (Note: for the best Skype calling and video experience, update to version 8.34 or later)
