The Z830 weighs a petit 2.5 pounds (1.13 kg) and is a direct competitor to Apple’s MacBook Air range. Its profile measures at 15.9 mm, making it 20% lighter and 40% thinner than its R830 predecessor. This slender profile has come at the sacrifice of a disk drive, much like Apple’s MacBook Air. The Z830 is Toshiba’s first Ultrabook to use Intel’s 2nd generation core processors, features DDR3 memory, 128GB solid state drive and uses Hi-Speed Start Technology for the quick boot. It also has a full sized LED backlight and spill resistant keyboard, Toshiba’s USB sleep and charge technology and in built stereo speakers. “The Portégé Z830 Series sets a new standard for thin and light systems, not just in portability, but also in affordability for such cutting-edge designs,” said Carl Pinto, Toshiba America’s Vice President of Product Development. “Toshiba’s engineering achievements and expert craftsmanship have resulted in a brilliant and fully thought-through innovation that exceeds expectations, perfect for both mobile business professionals and consumers.” Toshiba’s Z830 Ultrabook will be available in November of 2011, with an introductory suggested retail price of $1000.
