Microsoft has pulled the plug on the Kinect, ceasing production of its revolutionary motion-sensor and voice-recognition camera.

As Co.Design reports, Microsoft will no longer manufacturer its motion-sensing, voice-recognition camera. Once all retail stock is sold, the Kinect will no longer be available.

The Kinect will continue be supported for Xbox customers, but future support for developer tools remain uncertain.

Created for the Xbox 360 in 2010, the Kinect got a revamp for the launch for the Xbox One console in 2013. Microsoft initially faced harsh criticism from its stance of marketing the Kinect as an integral part of the Xbox One’s design.

Even though the standalone product is off the market, the technology the Kinect uses will still be utilised by the upcoming HoloLens.

In its lifetime the Kinect has sold around 35 million units.
