Microsoft has announced when to expect news on its next Surface hardware product.

The company says it’ll be hosting an event in Shanghai on the 23rd of May that promises to “show the world what’s next.”

As reported in March and according to ZDNet‘s Mary Jo Foley, a Surface product launch event of some sort is on the cards for the coming quarter but the nature of that product is a one big unknown.

However, given the timing and recent reveal of the Surface Laptop, it’s most likely the event will focus on the next fully-featured Surface 2-in-1 (even if the return of the Surface mobile remains an ever present possibility). It’s been almost two years since the Surface Pro 4 launched and the time looks ripe for a refresh.

Expect more news on the 23rd.
