NBN says it has achieved “ground breaking” speeds of up to 1.1Gbps downstream in its latest demonstration of Fixed Wireless technology.

The gigabit speeds were reached by taking advantage of Carrier Aggregation, fusing seven carriers in the 3.4GHz spectrum band and another four carriers in the 2.3GHz spectrum band, which also delivered upstream speeds of 165Mbps.

“Our ability to deliver gigabit speeds on Fixed Wireless demonstrates our continued focus on identifying and implementing tech advancements as and when they are needed, across all technologies,” said NBN CEO Bill Morrow.

Three ‘Wireless Network Termination Devices’ (WNTDs) were used to achieve the 1.1Gbps speed, while only one WNTD was required in the demonstration of other trial peaks speeds including 400Mbps/55Mbps, 250Mbps/50Mbps and 100/40Mbps.

“It’s particularly exciting to be able to reaffirm our commitment to delivering a great experience to the 600,000 premises in regional Australia that will be served by the Fixed Wireless network,” Morrow added.

NBN says it is committed to delivering a new high speed ‘nbn100 Fixed Wireless’ product primarily targeted at regional businesses next year.
