Hewlett Packard has reported sales that picked up in the second quarter, led by growth in both PCs and printers for the first time in more than five years.

Revenue was up 6.9 percent to US$12.4 billion in the period that ended in April, topping analysts’ estimates for the fourth consecutive quarter.

Consumer demand helped drive stronger growth, while laptop unit shipments jumped 12 percent, reflecting a PC industry that has finally posted a glimmer of growth for the first time since 2012, according to IDC.

“I would characterise this quarter for us really as a breakthrough quarter,” CEO Dion Weisler told reporters. “We’re playing offensive – we’re in the driver’s seat of our own future, and I think that future is incredibly bright for us.”
