Pushing back against the previous estimates of analysts, Andrew House, global chief executive of Sony Interactive Entertainment, told the New York Times that sales of the company’s Playstation VR headsets had passed 915,000 units as of February 19th.
“You literally have people lining up outside stores when they know stock is being replenished,” he said, describing scenes of the headset’s launch.
House indicated that Sony was well on its way to reach its own internal goal of 1 million units as of April.
Speaking at the VRX conference in December SuperData analyst Stephanie Lamas the firm expected sales for the PSVR to 745,000 sales in 2016.
While both HTC and Oculus haven’t gone public with their sales numbers, previous estimates have pegged the Vive at between 140,000 and 500,000 units shipped as of the end of 2016.
