NBN Co’s much-vaunted Sky Muster satellite service has been beset by problems including delays in the installation process and multiple network failures, CEO Bill Morrow has told a Senate estimates hearing – confirming widespread public complaints.

The issues include users having to wait on average five weeks between an order and installation; and 30pc missing completions on the scheduled installation day, he said. Also over the last few months the network had failed multiple times, leaving end users out of service for an average 1-2 hours.

“NBN is taking these issues very seriously and is doing everything we can to make the satellite service as stable and reliable as all our other technologies,” Morrow said.

His evidence follows widely published complaints by many of the 34,000 users of the NBN satellite service.

A second Sky Muster satellite has recently been launched, but is still undergoing testing and won’t go into service for several months.
