Telstra is ramping up its 4G network with the telco planning to deliver 2Gbps speeds in ‘high-demand’ areas.
Right now, the telco offers gigabit speeds to five CBD locations across Australia.
This 2Gbps speed will be out later this year.
The telco has been testing the 2Gbps speed over a LTE network overnight in an Ericsson lab in Sweden on its Netgear Nighthawk Mobile Router.
Mike Wright, group managing director or networks at Telstra says the test results continue to be positive.
“By aggregating 100MHz of spectrum across five frequency bands and utilising 4×4 multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) technology, speeds of 2 Gbps can be achieved over 4G.”
Wright says this new technology will be deployed in high traffic areas like stadiums, CBDs and shopping centres.
Telstra will be launching the Nighthawk Mobile Router sometime this year, claiming it will be ‘the world’s fastest 4G device’.
