Microsoft Australia has opened a pre-ordering procedure for its HoloLens “augmented reality” headset – but don’t rush to order unless you’re well-heeled and planning some development work.

Microsoft’s HoloLens Development Edition is priced at A$4369 while the HoloLens Commercial Suite will go for a cool $7269, shipping in November.

Augmented reality is a system whereby graphics are overlaid on top of a real-world view.

Australia is at this stage one of just six markets around the world to get the AR headset, following the US release earlier this year, The others are New Zealand, France, Germany, Ireland, and the UK.
